Strengthening cooperation between the General Department of Politics under the Vietnam People’s Army and the Main Directorate for Political - Military Affairs of the Russian Armed Forces

(Bqp.vn) - On the afternoon of May 20, in Hanoi, Director of the General Department of Politics under the Vietnam People’s Army General Luong Cuong had phone talks with Senior Lieutenant General Andrey Kartapolov, Russian Deputy Defense Minister and Chief of Main Directorate for Political - Military Affairs of the Russian Armed Forces.

During the talks, General Luong Cuong and Senior Lieutenant General Andrey Kartapolov assessed that despite being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the defence cooperation relationship between the two countries in general and cooperation between the General Department of Politics under the Vietnam People’s Army and the Main Directorate for Political - Military Affairs of the Russian Armed Forces in particular continue to be consolidated and strengthened, making important contributions to consolidating the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.

General Luong Cuong affirmed that the Party, State, People and Vietnam People’s Army always remember the great and effective support of the people of the former Soviet Union and the people of the Russian Federation today, and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation during Vietnam’s struggle for independence and national construction; expressed joy at the stability, growth, role, as well as position of the Russian Federation in the international arena; highly appreciated the effective contribution of the Russian Federation in general and the Russian Ministry of Defence in particular in addressing international problems in order to maintain peace, stability, cooperation and development in the world and Asia - Pacific region, including Vietnam. He hoped that the Vietnam - Russia relationship, including defence cooperation, will be developed highly, bringing practical benefits to the two peoples, and contributing to peace and development of the region and the world.

Regarding the bilateral cooperation in the coming time, General Luong Cuong and Senior Lieutenant General Andrey Kartapolov agreed to continue maintaining contacts between leaders of the two general departments; consolidate and strengthen cooperation in the fields in the signed memorandum of understanding, as well as priority contents of mutual interest.
