Vietnam takes part in Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defence Virtual Conference

(Bqp.vn) - Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, attended the 23rd Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defence (CHOD) virtual conference on August 25 at the invitation of Admiral Philip S. Davidson, Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), and Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto, Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

The conference is annually held by the U.S. Department of Defence to promote friendship and mutual understanding among the armies of regional countries. Taking part in the event themed “Advancing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific” were representatives from 29 regional countries.

At the event, participants discussed three main topics: “the meaning and impacts of COVID-19 and transnational health threats on national security”, “the meaning and impact of 5G mobile technology on national security" and “the role of multilateralism in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific”.

Vietnam’s participation in the event shows its policies of diversification and multi-lateralization of international relations and the country’s role as ASEAN Chair in 2020 for peace, stability and development in the region and the world as well.
