Artillery Arms

Artillery Arms is a combating arms of the Vietnam People’s Army. Founded on 29/6/1946 with the establishment of the Capital Artillery battery which consisted of 3 platoons: Lang Fort (04 anti-air guns 75 mm), Xuan Tao Fort (02 anti-air guns 75 mm), and Xuan Canh Fort (01 anti-air gun 75 mm). Over the combating course, the force developed vigorously: artillery battalion (1948), artillery regiment (1950), artillery - engineer division (1951). After the war against French colonists, the Ministry of National Defence decided to establish the Artillery Command (07/9/1954), and changed it to Artillery Corps (28/5/1956). The first commander was Maj. Gen. Le Thiet Hung, and the first political commissar was Lt. Gen Le Hien Mai

Its current organization has a Commander, some Vice-Commanders, Political Commissar, Deputy Political Commissar, functional organs in charge of consultancy, politics, logistics, techniques and some relating units.

With outstanding achievements in combat and combat support, in 1967, the Artillery Corps was honored eight golden letters by President Ho Chi Minh:

- Independence Order (First class 2001);

- Gold Star Order (2006)...

Special Operation Force Arms

The Special Operation Arms is an elite combat force of the Vietnam People’s Army. It is uniquely organized, equipped, and trained with special fighting skills, bravery and heroism, resourcefulness and boldness to attack and destroy key enemy’s targets.

The first commander was Col. Nguyen Chi Diem, and the first political commissar was Col. Vu Chi Dao.

The Special Operation Force Arms comprises: the Commander, some Vice-Commanders, Political Commissar, Deputy Political Commissar, functional organs in charge of consultancy, politics, logistics, techniques and some relating unit.

Date of establishment: 19/3/1967

Glorious tradition: “SPECIAL ELITE, BRAVERY AND HEROISM, RESOURCEFULNESS AND BOLDNESS TO ATTACK AND GAIN GLORIOUS VICTORY”.

Noble awards:

- The Hero of the People’s Armed Forces (1976);

Armour - Tank Arms

The Armour - Tank Arms is a an important attacking force of the Vietnam People’s Army. Founded in 1959, with the establishment of the first tank regiment (Tank Regiment No.202), then developed into regiments and battalions; taking part in campaigns in the South battle field, such as: Ta May - Lang Vay (1968), Dong Ha, Dac To, Tan Canh, Loc Ninh (1972), Cua Viet (1973), Phuoc Long, Buon Me Thuot and Ho Chi Minh Campaign to liberate Saigon and unify the country (1975).

The first commander and political commissar were Mr. Nguyen The Lam and Mr. Le Ngoc Quang, respectively.

The Armour - Tank Arms comprises: Commander and vice-commanders, political commissar and deputy political commissar, functional organs in charge of consultancy, politics, logistics, techniques and some relating units.

Traditional day: 05/10/1959

Date of establishment: 22/6/1965

Glorious tradition: “FIGHT TO WIN”

Engineering Arms

Engineering Arms is a specialized arms of the Vietnam People’s Army. It is responsible for constructing and maintaining military constructions in combat, building defense constructions and bridges. The first commander and political commissar were Mr. Pham Hoang and Mr. Chu Thanh Huong, respectively.

Its current organization has a Commander, some Vice-Commanders, Political Commissar, Deputy Political Commissar, functional organs in charge of consultancy, politics, logistics, techniques and some relating units.

Traditional day: 25/3/1946

Glorious tradition: “BUILDING ROADS SUCCESSFULLY”.

Noble awards:

- The Hero of the People’s Armed Forces (1976);

- 02 Ho Chi Minh Orders;

Chemical Arms

The Chemical Arms is a branch of the Vietnam People's Army, tasked to defend against Nuclear (CBRN) weapons. It is also tasked to define areas affected by toxic, conduct decontamination, and serve the cause of constructing and protecting the Fatherland.

The first commander was Lt. Gen. Dang Quan Thuy

Its current organization comprises: the Commander, some Vice-Commanders, Political Commissar, Deputy Political Commissar, functional organs in charge of consultancy, politics, logistics, techniques and some relating units.

Traditional day: 19/4/1958

Noble awards:

- Ho Chi Minh Order (2008);

Signal Arms

The Signal Arms is a professional arms of the Vietnam People's Army, which functions to consult and recommend to the Central Military Party Committee and the Ministry of National Defence in leading and directing to implement military information activities, issue legal documents of State management on military signal. It is also tasked to educate, train, build forces as well as maintain technical equipment to ensure the smooth flow of information in strategic posture, defence, and the Army’s operation as well.

The first commander and political commissar were Mr. Ta Dinh Hieu and Mr. Le Cu, respectively.

Its current organization includes the Commander, Vice-Commanders, Political Commissar, Deputy Political Commissar, functional organs in charge of consultancy, politics, logistics, techniques and some relating units.

Traditional day: 09/9/1945

Glorious tradition: “TIMELY - ACCURATE - SECRET - SAFE”
