(Bqp.vn) - A conference to review the international integration and defence diplomacy work in the 2016-2021 period was held by the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence on April 14. Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Defence Minister chaired the event.

In the 2016-2021 period, the defence diplomacy work was deployed concertedly, comprehensively, flexibly, and effectively in many aspects, recording important achievements. Notably, the bilateral defence cooperation with other countries has been consolidated, deepened, so that to contribute to building trust, protecting national sovereignty, and maintaining a peaceful environment for national development.
Vietnam has established defence relations with more than 100 countries in various fields, such as exchange of delegations, mechanisms of consultation and 0dialogue, training, defence industry, military medicine, etc.
It has actively and responsibly participated in multilateral defence diplomacy activities, thus strengthening strategic trust, enhancing position and prestige of the country and the Vietnam People’s Army in the international arena. Vietnam has also proposed valuable initiatives related to defence and security at regional and international cooperation mechanisms.

In addition, Vietnam has actively attended and hosted international military sports festivals, and recorded remarkable cooperation achievements in overcoming post-war consequences, handling the Agent Orange/Dioxin pollution and the unexploded bombs and mines.

Speaking at the conference, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien emphasized that the international integration and defence diplomacy work have been implemented comprehensively and effectively over the past years, contributing to consolidating and enhancing the position and prestige of the country and the Vietnam People’s Army in the international arena.
He stressed that Vietnam needs to continue studying and expanding appropriate defence cooperation relations and areas, focusing on improving the efficiency of border diplomacy, the law enforcement at sea and overcoming war consequences. Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien also asked agencies and units to continue effectively implementing existing cooperation agreements with other countries, actively and effectively participating at regional and international security forums, especially the defence cooperation mechanism within the ASEAN framework.
