(Bqp.vn) - On May 26 in Hanoi, Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang met with French Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu who was accompanying French President Emmanuel Macron on a State visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, General Phan Van Giang highly appreciated the positive development in the Vietnam - France relations, especially the upgrade of their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on the occasion of the official visit to France by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam in October 2024.

He emphasized that bilateral defense cooperation has continued to be strengthened and developed in a practical and effective manner in many fields, in accordance with the contents agreed upon by the two countries’ senior leaders and the two defense ministries, as well as signed cooperation documents, notably in areas such as delegation exchange, training, United Nations peacekeeping, defense industry, etc.

General Phan Van Giang affirmed that there is still much potential for defense cooperation between the two defense ministries. In the coming time, he suggested that the two sides continue to effectively implement the cooperation orientations based on the basis of the joint perceptions of the two countries’ senior leaders and the annual cooperation programme, focusing on a number of contents such as exchanges and contacts at all levels, especially at the high level ones; effectively promoting the strategic dialogue mechanism and defense cooperation; military medicine, hydrography, training; cooperation between military services, arms, and maritime security; United Nations peacekeeping, etc.
On this occasion, General Phan Van Giang thanked the French Ministry of the Armed Forces for sending a delegation and defense enterprises to attend and display products at the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024, contributing to the success of the event.

Expressing his delight at visiting Vietnam for the second time, French Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu thanked the host for the warm reception; emphasising that the meeting is an important sign of the good development in the relationship between the two countries. Vietnam and France share the desire for peace, respect for international law and mutual respect, he said.

Recalling the cooperation contents just agreed upon by the two countries’ senior leaders during the State visit to Vietnam by French President Emmanuel Macron, he hoped that the two sides would actively promote further cooperation in the field of defense, thereby continuing to make substantive and meaningful contributions to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
