(Bqp.vn) - On June 4, in Hanoi, Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang received British Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew.

At the reception, General Phan Van Giang affirmed that the Party, State, and Government of Vietnam always value cooperative relations with the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. He praised the defense cooperation between Vietnam and the UK in recent times, emphasizing that the defense cooperation has been implemented in line with the general relationship of the two countries, as well as the commitments of the two defense ministries in the Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral defense cooperation signed in 2017. This cooperation focuses on areas such as delegation exchanges, dialogue and consultation, training, defense industry, United Nations peacekeeping, etc.

Looking ahead, General Phan Van Giang suggested that the two of defense ministries continue to promote cooperation, focusing on several key areas: delegation exchanges, especially high-level ones; defense industry; training; United Nations peacekeeping; and mutual support and consultation in international and regional security mechanisms and forums, contributing to enhancing ASEAN - UK dialogue partnership relations. He expressed his hope that Ambassador Iain Frew would continue to make significant contributions to the relations between the two countries, particularly in defense cooperation.

For his part, Ambassador Iain Frew thanked General Phan Van Giang for the warm reception and congratulated Vietnam on successfully organizing the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. He appreciated the results of bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and the UK in recent times and expressed a desire for both sides to continue coordinating and enhancing Vietnam - UK cooperation in general and the defense cooperation in particular to new heights.
