(Bqp.vn) - On July 5, Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang hosted a reception for Chief of Defense Forces of Thailand General Songwit Noonpackdee, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, General Phan Van Giang stressed that the two countries’ elevation of their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in May this year was a historic milestone, opening up a new chapter in the bilateral relations. He affirmed that Vietnam always attaches great importance to consolidating its good friendship and cooperation with Thailand.
General Phan Van Giang highly appreciated the outcomes of the talks between General Songwit Noonpackdee and Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister General Nguyen Tan Cuong. He also acknowledged positive results of the bilateral defense cooperation over the past time and the pro-activeness of Thailand in general and the Thai Defense Ministry and Royal Thai Armed Forces in particular in fostering multilateral cooperation, particularly within ASEAN.

He suggested the two militaries actively implement activities to boost their understanding and mutual trust, focusing on strategic consultation and discussions, and all-level delegation exchanges. He also asked the two sides to raise effectiveness of the cooperation between arms and services, beef up collaboration in potential areas that meet each side’s needs and strengths.
Emphasizing that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense supports intensive cooperation between the two militaries, General Phan Van Giang expressed his hope that the two sides’ cooperation would be more effective, contributing to building and consolidating each defense ministry, and practically promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand.

For his part, General Songwit Noonpackdee expressed his delight at the fruitful development of the bilateral defense ties, saying that it is a pillar in the two countries’ partnership.

He expressed his hope that in the coming time, the two sides would continue to promote cooperation in potential fields which are suitable to the needs and strengths of each side, contributing to making the relationship between the two countries increasingly deeper, more practical and effective.
