A solemn ceremony was held in the Hoang Hoa Tham relic site in the northern province of Bac Giang on March 16 to mark the 130th anniversary of the Yen The uprising.

Yen The Insurrection troops built several military bases to fight against the French colony forces in a large area of high Yen The (currently Yen The district) for 30 years. Those Vietnamese uprising troops carried out dozens of important battles which made sound in the People’s hearts and made the French forces be scared. With high ditermination for liberating the country from French colony, De Tham and the insurrection leaders cooperated successfully with many other unprisings in all over Vietnam to create a nationwide insurrection movement.

Despite failing to win the final victory, the three-decade uprising mirrored the strength and desires for independence and freedom of Vietnamese people.

Addressing the event, NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong described the uprising as the largest waged by peasants, saying it manifested the Vietnamese people’s solidarity and patriotism.

Apart from an art performance featuring the historical time, there were a traditional dress show, martial arts performances and folk games.

The uprising left its traces in Yen The, Tan Yen, Viet Yen and Yen Dung districts, which became special national relics in 2012. The Yen The festival has also been recognised as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
