VN People’s Navy marks 60th founding anniversary
(Bqp.vn) - On Saturday morning, (2/5/2015), at Cam Ranh military base (Khanh Hoa province), Vietnam People’s Navy celebrated its 60th founding anniversary (7/5/1955 - 7/5/2015), and received the title Hero of the People's Armed Forces in the renovation period.
Leaders of the Party, the State, the Army and the Police attended the celebration.
The Politburo members: President Truong Tan Sang; Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan; General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defense; General Tran Dai Quang, Minister of Public Security and other leaders of the Party, the State, the Defense and the Navy over the times; the generals and delegations of the Hero of the People's Armed Forces attended the ceremony.

At the ceremony, Admiral Nguyen Van Hien, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Vietnam People’s Navy Commander generalised the glorious feat of arms of Vietnam People’s Navy. On 7th May 1955, Ministry of Defence made a decision to establish Coast Defensive Department, the predecessor of the Vietnam People's Navy nowadays. From the early days, there were 2 units formerly named Coast Training School and Studio 46 with 141 officers and soldiers. Then, there were 2 shou teams named Song Lo and Bach Dang which were “the first brick” of surface ship of Vietnam People’s Navy.
State President Truong Tan Sang awarded the title Hero of the People's Armed Force to the Viet Nam People’s Navy.
Along with special and outstanding achievements, Vietnam People’s Navy honored two times to be commended the title Hero of the People's Armed Forces in the renovation period and other noble titles. At the 60th founding anniversary, the State President also awarded the title Hero of the People’s Armed Force to the Viet Nam People’s Navy.
Speaking at the event, President Truong Tan Sang recognized and congratulated the achievements, outstanding victories of the Vietnam People's Navy in 60 years; simultaneously, urged each navy officer and solder to be fully aware of the sacred significance of the firm protection of the country’s independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity as well as of the nation’s islands and sea. President Truong Tan Sang also called on the navy to build itself into a revolutionary, modern and capable force and extend external relations with navies from all over the world as well as to show more initiatives in overseeing developments at sea then consult the Party and State on strategic policies to promptly deal with any incident. At his behest, it should continue raising public awareness of sea and islands sovereignty, improving the management of self-defense forces and natural resources at sea, and offering assistance to fishermen in their trade or search-and-rescue activities.

President Truong Tan Sang held the view that in accordance with enhancing economic development, it was also focused on the ability of protecting sea and islands sovereignty; effectively handling the relationship of economy and defence security; strongly cooperating between politics, foreign affairs and the real scenery in order to create a large movement of people to firmly protect sea and islands sovereignty.

In the solemn atmosphere of the 60th founding anniversary of Vietnam People’s Navy and awarding the title Hero of the People's Armed Forces in the renovation period, on behalf of Navy’s veterans, Lieutenant Colonel Ho Dac Thanh, Hero of People's Armed Forces, former captain of no-number ship expressed his special sentiments when he remembered and shared about the time of living, fighting and working in the Navy; he, at the same time, underlined that while returning to the real life, the veterans always firmly determined and continued devoting to the Party and the country as well, maintained the quality of "Uncle Ho's soldiers - The Navy soldiers."

On behalf of the Navy’s young generation to speak at the ceremony, Captain Pham Van Son, Captain of 375 warship shared his honor and pride to be a Navy soldier and expessed deep gratitude for the great contributions of previous generations. Being obviously awareness of the honor and responsibility, youth people of the Navy made a decision to overcome all difficulties and hardships, be ready to receive and successfully complete all its assigned tasks.
