Army units celebrating VPA’s founding anniversary
(VDP) - Many units of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) on December 18th and 19th organized various activities to celebrate the 69th founding anniversary of the VPA.
On December 19th at Military Zone 7 Command, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence held a get-together for nearly 600 demobilized senior officers in the locality where Military Zone 7 is stationed.
Lieutenant General Tran Don, Military Zone 7’s Commander, conveyed wishes of good health from General Phung Quang Thanh to the participants and informed them of major domestic and international developments, as well as Vietnam’s socio-economic situation, defence-security, defence external affairs and the army building in this year.He took notes of participants’ constructive suggestions on building the whole-people defence and a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern people’s army.
The participants thanked the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defence for their good deeds and promised to further contribute to the national construction and protection and to actively participate in local activities.
The same day, the Hanoi Capital Command met with over 500 war invalids and martyrs’ relatives in Hanoi to recall their brave fight against foreign invaders for national independence and freedom. They also laid stress on the capital’s armed forces’ achievements in training, combat readiness, natural disaster prevention and control, social safety and order, political security, and hunger elimination and poverty reduction.
Meanwhile, Military Zone 3 and 4’s Commands, Tank-Armoured Arm, Da Nang City Party Committee, People’s Council and Committee, Fatherland Front Committee held meetings with senior officers.
Earlier, on December 18th, Vinh Linh district People’s Committee of Quang Tri Province organized a ceremony to receive the title “Hero of People’s Armed Force” presented to Company 22 of Regiment 270 of Vinh Linh Special Zone Command, in recognition of the unit’s feats of arms in the resistance war against the American imperialists. In the 1965-1970 period, the unit transported more than 12,000 tons of weapons, food, building materials and hundreds of cadres and troops to Con Co Island and brought war-invalids ashore. 76 staff members of the unit sacrificed their lives serving the sacred mission.
