Chinese ship attacks injure Vietnamese fisherman
(Bqp.vn) - A Vietnamese fisherman from Ly Son Island was injured after his boat was attacked by Chinese ships while fishing within waters near Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago.
Fisherman Le Van Huong was seriously injured by China attacks.
According to captain Le Tuc, late on June 3, two Chinese marine surveillance ships coded 37102 and 31101 chased and repeatedly fired water cannons at his QNg 66029 TS boat, broke the cabin and some equipment.
Fisherman Le Van Huong suffered injuries to his face, neck and chest from shattered glass while he was trying to fight back against the water cannons from China’s ships.
Early on June 4, the QNg 66029 TS sailed back to the Ly Son port after two Chinese ships stopped the attack and went away.
On May 15, the QNg 96110 TS fishing boat carrying 11 fishermen on board was attacked by a Chinese ship coded 306 while fishing near Phu Lam island of the Hoang Sa archipelago.
The Chinese then seized navigational equipment, damaged diving hoses and confiscated the Vietnamese fishermen’s catch.
The QNg 96110 TS boat was attacked, damaged and looted again on May 20 by a Chinese ship coded 786 and had to sail back to shore for repairs.
Nguyen Quoc Chinh, chairman of the fishing syndicate in An Hai where the QNg 66029 TS and QNg 96110 TS were registered, said that since the beginning of May, Ly Son fishermen were subjected to nearly 10 attacks by Chinese ships.
He added that the syndicate would provide support for fishermen attacked by China, so that they could continue fishing within Vietnamese waters.
