Facilities built for dioxin cleanup at Bien Hoa airbase

(Bqp.vn) - The Ministry of National Defense launched the construction of facilities for the environmental remediation of dioxin contamination at Bien Hoa airbase in Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province on September 16.

Present at the event were Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Defense Minister, Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army as well as members of the National Steering Committee on the Settlement of Post-war Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and Toxic Chemical Consequences, amongst others.

The project will be implemented by the Air Defense and Air Force Command with a total capital of VND 270 billion.

The project is to prepare for the coming plan between the Vietnamese and US Governments to clean up dioxin contaminated hotspot at Bien Hoa airbase as well as to show the Vietnamese Government’s responsibility in addressing the post-war Agent Orange/dioxin issues in Vietnam.
