Vietnam coast guard vessel 8002 launched in Da Nang
(Bqp.vn) - The Song Thu Corporation under the Ministry of Defense launched the multi-purpose Vietnam Coast Guard Vessel 8002 in central Vietnam’s Da Nang City on October 4. Deputy Minster of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung and Commander of Vietnam Coast Guard Command, Major General Nguyen Quang Dam attended this ceremony.

The vessel, 90 metres long and 14 metres wide, has a capacity of over 12,000 horsepower and can operate at a maximum speed of 21 nautical miles per hour.
Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the vessel is able to operate continuously for 40 days at sea at a range of 5,000 nautical miles, even in harsh weather condition including strong winds and huge waves.
The vessel also has a helicopter pad, two high-speed rescue boats, weapons, and medical equipment.
The launch of the vessel aims to consolidate the Vietnamese coast guard enabling it to fulfil the assigned tasks of safeguarding the country’s marine sovereignty, conducting patrols to protect sea environment and maritime resources, and creating favourable conditions for fishermen to stay firm on their fishing grounds.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung and other very important guests are cutting ribbons to launch the ship.
Attending the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung, Deputy Minister of National Defense praised the corp. for overcoming difficulties to fulfil its assigned missions.
General Cung also laid stress on the Party’s and the State’s attention to missions on ensuring national security and defence though the national economy is still facing many difficulties as well as the need to equip modern equipment for armed forces in general and the Vietnam Coast Guard in particular.
General Cung asked the corp., the Vietnam Coast Guard Command and relevant organs to check and complete necessary contents to put into operation this ship as soon as possible, enabling coast guard forces to patrol and protect national sovereignty over seas and islands and enforce law at waters of the country and continental shelf.
At the launch ceremony, the Song Thu Corporation presented VND 100 million (US$4,700) to the Coast Guard Region 2 Command.
