This is the second time the province’s force has been presented with such a noble title in recognition of their outstanding achievements in building and safeguarding the national border.

The Nghe An Border Guard has to manage and protect a 419 kilometre land border line contiguous to three provinces of Laos and 82 kilometres of Vietnamese coastline.

During the two resistance wars for national salvation, 194 soldiers of the force laid down their lives and hundreds of others were injured. In the renewal process, the force has effectively prevented and handled illegal cross-border activities and co-ordinated with Lao armed forces to maintain a peaceful border.

Deputy Defence Minister, Senior Lieutenant General, Nguyen Thanh Cung on February 25 presented the title ‘Hero of the People's Armed Force’ to the Nghe An Border Guard. He said he hoped that the force would always fulfill their tasks to ensure border security and protect national sovereignty over land and sea.
