17th ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting officially held
(Bqp.vn) - The 17th ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting (AMIM-17) took place online on September 22 with the theme “Towards a cohesive and developing ASEAN Military Intelligence Community”. Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Hung, Director of the General Department of Defence Intelligence under the Vietnam Ministry of National Defence chaired the meeting.

Attending the meeting were leaders of the defence intelligence agencies from ASEAN member states.

At the event, delegates focused on exchanging and assessing the situation of regional security, thereby proposing measures to strengthen cooperation among defence intelligence agencies in order to actively respond to challenge, and at the same time agreeing on contents to submit ACDFM-17 for approval.

ASEAN military intelligence cooperation is an important area in ASEAN military and defence cooperation, belonging to the political-security pillar of the ASEAN Community. Over the past years, this area of cooperation has seen strong developments, with the establishment of bilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanisms and initiatives, thereby creating favorable environments and conditions for countries in exchanging and updating information, meeting the need to grasp the situation, so that to serve policy-making and implement plans to respond to security challenges in the region and the world as well.
At the end of the meeting, Vietnam transferred the AMIM Chairmanship to Brunei.
