VN welcomes Japanese businesses

(Bqp.vn) - Viet Nam commits to creating favorable conditions for foreign investors, including those from Japan.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement in Tokyo on December 13 during a meeting with CEOs of Japan’s leading economic corporations, including Mitsubishi, Honda, Hitachi, Sumitomo, Canon and Takashimaya.

He said that the Vietnamese Government is now focusing on completing the legal framework on investment and trade while improving tax and financial incentives to attract further investment in hi-tech, supporting industries, as well as encouraging investment in infrastructure development, especially through the public-private partnership model.

PM Dung also said that the Government plans to submit a draft law on housing to the National Assembly for approval to create favorable conditions for foreigners to buy houses in Viet Nam while taking measures to activate the real estate market.

The Government also plans to issue coordination regulations on State management over foreign direct investment and accelerate BOT projects on building thermal power plants.

Japan is now Viet Nam’s biggest investor with total capital of US$35 billion. However, PM Dung said the figure is still modest compared with Japanese businesses’ potential and capacity.

During the meeting, PM Dung answered questions of Japanese corporations related to the Government’s specific actions and viewpoints to realize breakthroughs of improving the market economy, prioritizing resources for infrastructure development, and developing human resource to meet foreign investors’ requirements.

Japanese business leaders highly valued the Vietnamese Government’s policies on the macro-economy, curbing inflation and maintaining the average growth of 5.6%/year during the past three years.

They also affirmed their to expand investment in Viet Nam and suggested the Government should further encourage the development of supporting industry, train skilled human resources, ease foreigners’ house purchasing among others.
