Various activities to mark 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory

(Bqp.vn) - Many activities will be organised in Dien Bien Phu city and broadcast live on TV to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory over the French colonialists (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2014).

This was announced by Dien Bien province's Organising Board of the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory on March 5.

Opening the celebration will be a mobile art programme held from March 9-13 entitled ‘Art pilgrimage to Dien Bien Phu’. About 120 artists will join the programme who will travel along National Highway 6 to hold performances inspired by the victories at Hoa Binh, Son La and Dien Bien provinces.

Later, the People's Committee of Dien Bien province will co-ordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to host the Dien Bien Culture and Tourism Week from March 13 - 15 in Dien Bien Phu city.

Many other celebratory activities will continue into April and May, such as a photo exhibition themed ‘Dien Bien in the arms of friends’ and a workshop titled ‘Promoting the special value of Dien Bien Phu relic site for tourism development of Dien Bien province in line with the Northwest region’. A film week on the Dien Bien Phu victory and a national open cycling tournament named ‘Coming Dien Bien Phu in 2014’ among others will also take place.

Special art programmes will be held on the nights of May 6 - 7 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to mark the event. Particularly, a parade at the provincial stadium on May 7 will be broadcast live on the VTV1 channel.

The People’s Committee of Dien Bien province is working with relevant agencies to finish preparations for the celebrations including the upgrade of the Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum, the provincial stadium, martyrs’ cemeteries and relic sites related to the Dien Bien Phu victory.
